This was announced long ago, but it was recently brought up again via an announcement by Lucasfilm in which John Knoll, who will head up the 3-D process, basically tried to make clear that it's not gonna suck (like a lot of the recent 3-D movies that have been altered AFTER being filmed).
The new 3-D versions will start rolling out in 2012, and will be released in episode order (so, starting with The Phantom Menace). The L.A. Times asks if this is even a good idea ... what do you think?

Won't get the proper 3D effect.
